On April 10th, the 2nd English Reading Competition was held at the European
Secondary Hartmannsdorf.
Six students from Grade 8 took part in the event—three from class 8-1 (Leilah Adam,
Lilli-Sophie Weiß and Richard Graube) and three from class 8-2 (Luna Blum, Annika
Kluge and Nele Rothe).
The audience was very supportive and enthusiastic, cheering warmly for their
classmates throughout the competition.
The participants read excerpts from the book Underground New York (by Cecile
Rossant), which they had studied during their English lessons. They were allowed to
prepare these passages in advance. In the second round, however, they were given
unfamiliar texts to read aloud without prior preparation. This round was challenging,
but the students rose to the occasion and handled it impressively.
Although everyone was a bit nervous, each participant gave their best and performed
admirably.
Congratulations to the winners!
1st Place: Leilah Adam (8-1)
2nd Place: Nele Rozhe (8-2)
3rd Place: Annika Kluge (8-2)
We’re so proud of you!
A special thank you goes to jury member Alice Nawroth (10-2), who won the first
English Reading Competition two years ago and kindly agreed to support the younger
students.
Also, a big thank you to Piet Baumgarten (10-2) and Mr. Weber for their valuable
contributions.
I’m already looking forward to next year’s reading competition!
Frau Neumann
